Working to protect you
Building and business owners/managers have an obligation under Occupational Health and Safety Regulations Act 2000 to provide emergency procedures information to all staff, visitors, and contractors. Such information will aid in their evacuation of the premises and the identification of fire safety equipment and also hazards. Emergency procedures include evacuation plans and diagrams that show evacuation routes and emergency assembly areas, the location of fire fighting appliances and other significant information.

Evacuation Procedures
To effectively manage an emergency that may require evacuation, it is critical that the organisation evaluates the potential circumstances that may lead to an evacuation, the level of evacuation required, who will initiate an evacuation and when it will occur.
There needs to be a co-ordinated effort from a group of educated individuals to initiate and co-ordinate an evacuation in a safe, efficient and effective manner, from an individual area or an entire building, ensuring all occupants arrive safely at the designated assembly area. There could be a number of different incidents occur that require specific management processes, however once a decision is made to evacuate, the process must be identical, like water running through a funnel.
The objective when developing and implementing effective evacuation processes is to keepthe process simple in design and training, which will help information retention.
